Advanced Android and cross-platform training for the Department of Finance IT team.
A specialised upskilling module so Department of Finance programmers can build a private server-monitoring app, giving IT staff real-time visibility of on-premise server health from their mobile devices.

The Department of Finance is the government’s steward of sound fiscal policy, formulating revenue policies that fund critical government programmes.
The Department’s senior IT officer asked LaQuest to design a specialised training module in advanced Android application development. The goal was a private server-monitoring app that sends data from on-premise servers to mobile devices, so IT staff can remotely monitor server health, including temperature, CPU usage, disk space, network status, fan condition and physical location, while keeping the data centre secure.
An interview-based skills survey of the eight participants showed a solid base in Android, Java and web development. Two specialised in desktop applications and six in web-based systems. The programme focused on RESTful APIs and cross-platform frameworks, delivered practically and within a set timeframe.
An upskilling module for professional developers built around a single codebase that deploys across platforms: version control with GitHub; MVC architecture; Java, with Kotlin introduced alongside existing Java applications; API development, secure communication and integration with third-party and Google APIs; and Flutter, Dart and Firebase for Android, iOS, desktop and web.
The team gained cross-platform mobile development skills and a clear grasp of finding and using APIs, supporting continuity of digital innovation in government.
